Job Summary

The Patient Assistant supports patients with their daily care needs and assists nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality patient care. The role works under the supervision and direction of licensed healthcare professionals, following hospital policies, infection-control requirements, and patient-safety procedures. Typical duties in Qatar healthcare settings include assisting with personal care, mobility, patient comfort, transport, observation, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care

• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
• Support patients with safe mobility, repositioning, transfers, and wheelchair or stretcher transportation.
• Help maintain patient comfort, dignity, privacy, and emotional well-being.
• Assist in preparing patients for examinations, tests, and procedures as directed by the nurse or physician.
• Escort or accompany patients to diagnostic tests, procedures, or other hospital departments when required.

Observation & Support

• Observe patients and promptly report changes in their condition, behavior, or needs to the Registered Nurse.
• Measure and record vital signs when trained, authorized, and assigned.
• Respond appropriately to patient requests and call systems.
• Provide reassurance and respectful emotional support to patients and families.

Clinical & Nursing Support

• Assist nurses and healthcare professionals with basic patient-care activities within the approved scope of practice.
• Collect and transport specimens when trained and instructed.
• Prepare patient rooms, beds, stretchers, equipment, and required supplies.
• Assist with maintaining adequate stocks of medical and patient-care supplies.

Safety & Infection Control

• Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable patient environment.
• Follow hospital infection-prevention procedures, including hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation requirements.
• Follow patient-safety procedures and immediately report hazards, incidents, or concerns.
• Handle patient information with strict confidentiality and professionalism.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent; a Healthcare Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, or related healthcare qualification is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of patient care, hygiene, mobility assistance, and healthcare safety procedures.
• CPR/BLS or other relevant healthcare certification may be preferred, depending on the employer and position.
• Relevant hospital, clinic, nursing home, or healthcare experience is an advantage.

Reporting Relationship

Reports to: Registered Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, or designated healthcare professional.

Working Conditions

The Patient Assistant may work in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, long-term care facilities, home care or other healthcare environments in Qatar. The position may require shift work, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, depending on operational requirements.
